OSX Lion 10.7.2 crashed during Xcode 4.1 install - Boot stalls

Hi,

I had everything running perfectly but just needed to get XCode installed for development work. Downloaded the free Xcode from Mac App Store and during the install, it crashed the OSX. There was nothing I could do at that point but reboot and try again. Unfortunately, whatever XCode was installing, it affected some files since the following occurs during boot.

Code:

...
kxld[com.apple.driver.AppleRTC]: The Mach-O file is malformed: Invalid magic number: 0xbebafeca.
Can't load kext com.apple.driver.AppleRTC - link failed.
Failed to load executable for kext com.apple.driver.AppleRTC
Kext com.apple.driver.AppleRTC failed to load (0xdc008016)
Couldn't alloc class "AppleRTC"
...

There are also couple of other kexts not found like:

AppleHDACOntroller
NVDAResman
Geforce
NVKernel

and this error too, repeated twice

Code:

** AppleSMBusPCI::start failed to get acpi path for provider
The last line of the boot log is

Code:

USBMSC Identifier (non-unique): 575845393038584E46383234 0x1058 0x704 0x105
and then nothing.

I tried the usual -v -F -x -s and other boot flags with no help. I'm going to try booting from an install USB and see if it's possible to login at least to run some sort of a repair or reinstall the corrupted kexts. If anyone had similar issues, did you manage to fix and how?

thanks

  1. Did you ever find a way around this? Happen to be having exactly the same problems now with an ASUS P5W DH Deluxe and have been searching for an answer for a couple of days. I found that booting to the install USB then repairing permissions with disk utility will let me boot the main disc - but only once then it's back to the error you've described. Am nearly ready to buy a PC and be done with hackintoshing. Thanks!
